WINDSOR, Ont. - A hotline set up by a Windsor, Ont., hospital in the wake of mistaken mastectomies coming to light has already fielded some 100 phone calls.
Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital spokeswoman Kim Spirou says the callers include a number of breast cancer patients.
She says anxiety is high among patients who are calling to find out if their pathology reports were correct.
The hotline was created Thursday after it became public that a surgeon at the hospital had performed two mastectomies on patients who didn't have cancer.
In at least one case, the doctor has admitted she misread the results of a needle biopsy.
A number of investigations are now underway into the practices of Dr. Barbara Heartwell.
