A 20-year-old man is in police custody after a wild car chase Monday afternoon that left a police cruiser heavily damaged.

Authorities were alerted to a suspicious incident on Union Square in the Sheppard Avenue and Neilson Road area.

When police arrived on the scene, they spotted a man fitting the description of a suspect driving away from the scene in a 2008 Lincoln. Officers activated their emergency lights to alert the driver but the vehicle didn't come to a stop.

Police say at one point during the chase, their police cruiser was hit when the Lincoln reversed into it before speeding away again. Authorities continued to give chase.

The Lincoln hit a snowbank but eventually it was able to make its way back on the road. Police say the cruiser was hit once again in the rear corner by the Lincoln.

A suspect was arrested at the scene and taken into custody. No one was injured in the chase.
