Toronto's homicide detectives are keeping a close eye on a shooting that left a young man clinging to life in hospital.
Shots rang out at about 2:20 a.m. Monday inside a community centre in the Dufferin Street and St. Clair Avenue area. A reggae and hip hop dance competition was taking place at the time at the Hungarian House cultural centre at the time. Between 600 and 800 people were in attendance, said Staff Sgt. Dan Sabadics at 13 Division.
When police got to the scene, they heard additional shots fired. They soon located the wounded man, suffering from a single gunshot to the head. He was rushed to St. Michael's Hospital where he remains in grave condition.
The victim is 18 years old and for now, police are not releasing his name.
Police are looking for two men they are calling "persons of interest." One is described as wearing a white hat with a white striped shirt with the number 45 on the back.
Authorities are asking people who attended the event to give them a call. When shots rang out, people fled the scene in a panic. Few witnesses have come forward to help police, Sabadics said.
Investigators know some of the attendees were taking their own video footage of the party and want to take a look at the tapes for clues.
Anybody with information about the incident are being asked to call police at (416)808-7400 or to leave an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers, (416)222-TIPS.
