A Toronto man who was restrained after allegedly approaching a two-year-old girl on the street is facing a series of charges, police said on Monday.

Police said the girl was riding her bicycle at Millwood Park, near Mill Road and Bloor Street West, Saturday morning. The girl’s father was walking alongside her when they were approached by a man in a van, police said.

The suspect allegedly stopped the vehicle and began yelling explicit comments at the girl as he approached with his arms extended.

Police said the girl’s father intervened and, with help from witnesses, restrained the man until police arrived.

David Briggs, 46, of Mississauga, has been charged with attempted abduction of a person under 14 years of age, sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, assault with intent to resist arrest, possession of cocaine and possession of a controlled substance.

Police say there may be other victims and have released an image of the suspect.
