A section of Royal York Road was closed and homes were temporarily evacuated when a driver crashed into a house, hitting a gas line early Wednesday morning.
Police were called to a home in Etobicoke shortly after 2:30 a.m. when a single vehicle crashed on Royal York Road, just north of Lake Shore Boulevard.
Police called in a full hazardous materials team to investigate after a natural gas line was severed in the crash. Representatives from Enbridge were also brought in to cap the gas leak.
Some nearby homes were evacuated, but police have not said how many residents had to leave the area. So far, no injuries have been reported.
Northbound Royal York Road was closed between Lake Shore Boulevard and Lake Crescent from approximately 3 a.m. until 7 a.m.
Police told CTV Toronto that they're looking for a male suspect who fled the scene on foot.
