They might serve the rich and famous for a living but for the next little while, staffers at a posh Yorkville restaurant will taste the lifestyle for themselves.
Sixteen employees of ONE restaurant at the new five-star Hazelton Hotel won $4.6 million in the Oct. 10 Lotto 6/49 jackpot. Once it's divided up, they will each be $287,500 richer.
The ecstatic group picked up their cheque from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation prize office on Friday. Speaking to reporters, they said they planned on spending the money on helping relatives, new houses and fun trips.
Remarkably, each of them returned to work the next day where they are employed as food runner, bartenders, servers and managers. They range in age from 21 to 43
Tim Salmon, the restaurant's general manager, was part of the winning group. He told the Toronto Star the prize won't change things too much.
"It's a nice head start, but it's not enough to live on really," he said.
