SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - New Democrat Leader Howard Hampton is reminding voters of the premier's broken promise to not raise taxes by even one cent.
At a press conference in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., Hampton played a tape from the 2003 election debate during which Premier Dalton McGuinty made the pledge.
Hampton let the quote play over and over again.
Hampton is pledging to phase out the health tax for low-income earners and reduce it for middle income taxpayers.
He says he would raise corporate taxes to make up for the shortfall, so the health-care systen doesn't suffer as a result of the tax cut.
Hampton would also bring in a new tax bracket for taxpayers that earn more than $150,000 a year.
