The east tower of Toronto City Hall reopened early Wednesday morning after several water pipes froze and burst overnight.
Water seeped from the pipes onto the lower floors of the building sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning, a city official said. Water got into the elevator shafts, and only one of the tower's elevators was working as a result.
Approximately 500 people work in the east tower, and several hundred were asked to make alternate arrangements, the city said in a message on Twitter.
The City Hall wedding chamber was closed as a result of the flooding, but at least one bride and groom went ahead with their ceremony in the hallway outside the chamber.
"They did an excellent job to make arrangements for us," newlywed Salam told CTV Toronto's Ashley Rowe.
"They set up eight chairs (in the hall) and the ceremony was great."
UPDATE: The East Tower at City Hall will be accessible tomorrow morning beginning at 6AM. #Toronto #TOpoli
