Drivers in Vaughan have been urged to steer clear of certain roads as police investigate a collision in the city's south end.

Police said a male pedestrian was struck by a Mazda Tribute on Keele Street and Administration Road, just north of Highway 7, at about 6:40 a.m.

The pedestrian was transported to hospital with serious injuries, York Regional Police said in a statement.

Meanwhile, police have asked motorists to avoid driving near Keele Street between Highway 7 and Langstaff Road as crews try to reconstruct the incident.

Keele Street's northbound lanes had been blocked at Highway 7 while its southbound lanes were closed at Rivermede Road.

The closure snarled traffic in the area at the beginning of rush hour.
