Charges have been upgraded against a Mississauga man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred outside an Etobicoke bar early Sunday morning.
Mark Shaba, 19, of Toronto, died after police said he was intentionally run down in the parking lot of Arizona Bar and Grill, on Carlingview Drive near Pearson Airport, at about 2:30 a.m.
Investigators said the victim had been involved in an altercation inside the bar earlier that night.
Police said Shaba was hit by a Ford Explorer, which left the scene after the collision. Witnesses said he was standing in front of the SUV, trying to prevent the driver from leaving.
Shaba was taken to Sunnybrook hospital, where he died of his injuries a few hours later.
A witness followed the SUV and reported the license plate number to police. Officers arrested a man at his Mississauga home about 40 minutes later.
Gagan Deep Singh, 25, is charged with:
- Impaired driving causing death;
- Criminal negligence causing death; and
- Failing to stop after an accident causing death.
Singh was to appear at the Finch Avenue Courts on Monday.
