BRACEBRIDGE, Ont. - Police say a Toronto man faces several charges after a spike belt was used to stop a car on Highway 11.

It started started Tuesday evening near Bracebridge, about 180 kilometres north of Toronto, when police got a call about a motorist driving the wrong way.

Police located a car around 6:30 p.m. headed the right way toward Gravenhurst -- clocked at 170 kilometres an hour.

Investigators say the car left Highway 11, got back on the highway headed southbound in the northbound lanes, and then moved to the proper lanes before being stopped by a spike belt near Orillia.

Police say two cruisers were extensively damaged.

Charges faced by Gavin Phillips, 27, include dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
