Two mothers are thankful their families are alive after several gunshots penetrated their west-end homes, narrowly missing a sleeping baby.

Four bullets hit the semi-attached residences, near Jane Street and St. Clair Avenue, around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Sharlene Nash said three gunshots were fired at her home. One landed just steps from a 10-month-old girl, one of her two children.

"We heard this bang ... and I jumped out of bed and told my boyfriend 'maybe it was the sound of a gunshot'," she said.

"One (bullet) went upstairs and entered into a closet close to my baby's room ... and her head was facing towards the door."

In the unit next to Nash's, one bullet flew through a kitchen window, lodging into the wall.

"When I moved the blind I saw a bullet hole and said 'oh my god what happened,'" said Jennie Bernard, who lives in the home.

Bernard said her husband moved from the main level to the basement moments before the shot was fired. Their two children were also in the home.

Police are still investigating the incident, but no arrests have been made.

A motive for the shootings is not yet clear.
