TORONTO -- Broken Social Scene's Kevin Drew is set to debut his first play in Toronto this fall, co-starring alongside a fellow Canadian rock singer.
Billy Talent frontman Ben Kowalewicz will join Drew in "A&R Angels," in which they'll play two angels who've spent years rescuing people from the brink of death with their music.
But as they further into their blessed careers, the angels find their success rate is plummeting as appreciation for a well-crafted song dimishes.
Given one Hail Mary opportunity to save their reputations, the angels embark on writing a "killer song that will give life to the living."
The 90-minute play debuts at the Crow's Theatre in Toronto on Nov. 20 and runs until Dec. 9.
"A&R Angels" will also star Maurice Dean Wint of the cult film "Cube" and recent Dora award-winner Ngozi Paul, who co-wrote the TV series "Da Kink in My Hair."
The play will be directed by Chris Abraham, who serves as the Crow's Theatre artistic director and has previously worked on Stratford Festival productions such as "For the Pleasure of Seeing Her Again" and "The Little Years."
