TORONTO - The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired outfielder Ben Francisco from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for left-handed pitcher Frank Gailey.

Francisco, 30, had a .244 average with six homers and 34 RBIs in 100 games for the Phillies this past season. Over parts of five major-league seasons with Cleveland and Philadelphia, Francisco has a .260 average with 45 home runs and 174 RBIs.

Francisco was acquired by the Phillies from the Indians in July 2009 in a trade that also brought Cliff Lee to Philadelphia.

Gailey, 26, split time between single-A Dunedin and double-A New Hampshire this year. He went 5-6 with a 3.41 earned-run average in 45 relief appearances.

Gailey was originally selected in the 23rd round of the 2007 draft by the Blue Jays and has spent four seasons in the team's system. Over his minor-league career, the left-hander is 23-15 with a 2.45 ERA in 175 games.

Also Monday, the Blue Jays claimed right-hander Jim Hoey off waivers from Minnesota, outrighted catcher Brian Jeroloman and right-hander Drew Carpenter to triple-A Las Vegas and designated right-hander Jesse Chavez for assignment.
