A 24-year-old Toronto man has surrendered himself to York Regional Police in connection with a hit-and-run collision in Vaughan early Sunday morning.

Police found a severely injured 25-year-old man in the parking lot of a commercial plaza at 60 Interchange Way at about 2:40 a.m.,York police said Wednesday in a news release.

Investigators have determined that the incident stemmed from a fight between a group of males in their mid-20s.

Police allege the suspect driver, along with two other men, left the scene in a vehicle and struck the victim.

The victim remains in hospital, where he is considered to be in serious condition.

On Tuesday, the suspect turned himself into police in Vaughan.

Claudio Berardi, 24, of Toronto, has been charged with:

  • dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm
  • failing to stop at the scene of an accident

Berardi is to appear in a Newmarket court on Aug. 18. No allegations against him have been proven in a court of law.
