CALEDONIA, Ont. - A group of Six Nations protesters in southwestern Ontario waved flags and handed out brochures Friday to increase public awareness about land-claim issues.
Protester Janie Jamieson says the group of about 20 people were protesting a land development in Caledonia, Ont., a few blocks from Douglas Creek Estates _ the site of an ongoing aboriginal standoff.
Jamieson says the point of the protest was to inform people that First Nations land rights are violated when their land is sold and developed without consultation.
She says the group talked to residents and handed out brochures explaining land-claim issues.
Jamieson says the protesters also talked to the developer, who says he's moving forward with his project but agreed to meet with the aboriginals in two weeks to discuss their concerns.
A similar protest was planned for later in the day in Brantford, Ont.
