Three men face manslaughter charges after remains suspected to be of a missing Markham real estate agent were recovered earlier this week.
One of the accused had previously been charged with kidnapping after Jianguo (Tony) Han and Xiu Jun Fei went missing from a Mississauga, Ont. mansion six months ago.
Han and Fei disappeared in late January from the $2.4-million home. Han, a real estate agent, was trying to sell Fei's mansion.
The homeowner was found a short time later after his disappearance. Han, however, was never located.
Earlier this week, Peel Regional Police said the kidnapping investigation led them to a Markham home, where they recovered a body from the basement.
A police source said investigators visited the house months ago, but found nothing. This time cadaver dogs sniffed out the remains, encased in concrete.
Peel police say forensic testing is currently being done to confirm the identity of the remains.
Senthuran Sabesan, of Waterloo, Ont., appeared in a Brampton courtroom on Thursday afternoon where his kidnapping charges were upgraded to manslaughter.
Gobinath Shanthkuman, 23, of Newmarket and Sohiab Malik, 21, of Waterloo were also charged with manslaughter in connection with Han's disappearance.
Brown told CTV Toronto's Tamara Cherry that his client was arrested in Barrie, Ont., on Wednesday.
Sabesan and co-accused Shanthkuman have also been charged with kidnapping with intent to hold for ransom and the aggravated assault of Fei.
All three men are expected to remain in police custody until their next court appearances. Sabesan is slated to appear in court on July 19, his lawyer Daniel Brown told ctvtoronto.ca.
Hinthurjin Baskaran, 21, from Toronto, also faces kidnapping charges.
There is an outstanding warrant for the arrest of Guo Wei Wu, 43, a male of no fixed address, for kidnapping with the intent to hold for ransom and assault causing bodily harm.
