A runaway Lexus sport utility vehicle took a car wash attendant for a wild ride on Saturday, across a main road and into a creek.
The driver-less vehicle rolled out of a car wash at Markham Road and Progress Avenue, where an alert attendant saw that it was not stopping. He jumped into the vehicle to attempt to bring it under control, but the SUV kept rolling.
It travelled across a parking lot and several lanes of traffic, where it struck the rear of another SUV causing some damage. The Lexus finally slid into a shallow creek right-side up, surrounded by rocks.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 4:00 p.m.
Toronto firefighters called in a hazardous materials unit because fluid was leaking from the SUV.
Paramedics examined the attendant who had been taken for a ride, which included an approximately 4.5-metre drop over a retaining wall and into the creek. He was well enough to return to work.
No one was hurt in the incident.
