Toronto police have released surveillance camera video in connection with a downtown shooting, hoping that someone will recognize a vehicle seen in the area at the time.

Shaka Reid, 36, was shot at the intersection of Dundas and Sherbourne Streets, shortly after midnight on Aug.19. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

At a news conference Wednesday, police released surveillance camera video and still photos of a vehicle they believe is connected to the case.

Det. Sgt. Mike Carbone said a white vehicle stopped near the intersection, and four people were seen getting out of the car.

"It appears that Mr. Reid engages one of the individuals in a brief conversation, at which time Mr. Reid is fatally shot," Carbone told reporters.

Witnesses reported seeing the shooter and other suspects return to the car and drove off, witnesses told police. Carbone did not release descriptions of the suspects, but said officers are looking for the white, newer model Ford Taurus seen in the video.

Carbone said police wish to speak to the owner of the vehicle, and anyone who may have been in the area at the time.

"As you can see from the video, Dundas Street appears to be fairly busy, with several vehicles travelling in an east and west direction," he said.

"I would like to appeal to anyone who was on Dundas Street during that time to call police."

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and anyone with more information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400, ext. 77378. Tips can also be left anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 416-222-8477 (TIPS).
