TORONTO - Four people are facing charges that they used human couriers to bring cocaine into Canada through Toronto's Pearson International Airport.

An RCMP spokesman says the cocaine was being smuggled into Canada from a Caribbean country in luggage.

A total of nine kilograms of cocaine was seized during the investigation.

Philip Sargeant, 31, Ernest Wilson, 25, Albert Gopie, 23, of Toronto, and Melissa Gittens, 26, of Markham, Ont., are charged with conspiracy to import cocaine into Canada.

Sgt. Frank Gougeon says one of two couriers identified by investigators also faces charges and police are seeking others.
