A plain-clothed police officer was struck by a vehicle that had been reported as stolen in Toronto's east end on Monday.
The incident happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Markham Road, just north of Eglinton Avenue East. Const. Victor Kwong said plain-clothed police officers were in the area when one of the officers was struck by the vehicle.
It is unclear if the officer was deliberately struck.
Kwong said one of the officers then discharged a gun, firing one round. The driver and a passenger inside the vehicle attempted to flee the scene, but the vehicle got into a collision a short distance away, Kwong said.
The passenger was then arrested. Police are still looking for the driver of the vehicle, who fled the scene on foot.
Police have not provided a description of the suspect.
The Special Investigations Unit is not investigating the incident because no one other than the police officer was injured. Kwong said the officer suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The Toronto Police Service's Police Professional Standards unit has launched an investigation into the incident.
