OAKVILLE, Ont. -- Halton Region police are investigating after a seriously injured woman was found lying in the middle of a road in Oakville this morning.

Police say an Oakville Transit bus driver found the woman around 1:30 a.m. (on Proudfoot Trail) and assisted her with the help of the lone passenger on the bus.

Police say the 22-year-old Toronto woman who "had suffered obvious trauma" was taken to Hamilton General Hospital where she remains in stable condition.

Investigators are trying to figure out if the woman was hit by a vehicle or if she fell from a moving vehicle.

Police believe the woman and a friend were dropped off in the area by a taxi after being picked up in downtown Toronto. The pair are thought to have split up at the drop off point.

Police want to speak to the cab driver and are asking the taxi cab community to contact them with any information.

The cab driver is described as an East Indian male in his late 20s to early 30s with short dark hair and an Indian accent. His cab is being described as a white Toyota Camry with dark leather interior, bearing cab number 2013 or 2310.
