Ont. municipalities crippled during the December, 2013, ice storm have yet to receive any of the $190 million in relief funds promised by the provincial government.
The province was expected to cover the costs of warming centres, additional police expenses, and the cleanup of the debris left by the storm.
CTV Toronto has learned, that so far, not a cent of the $190-milllion Ice Storm Assistance Program has been paid out.
Municipalities say that an overly complicated application process is responsible for the delayed payments.
The province’s original Oct. 31 deadline for filing applications has been extended o Dec. 31.
It was anticipated that the Ice Storm Assistance Program would provide relief to 32 affected towns and cities.
The storm pelted municipalities in southern Ont. with freezing rain and snow on Dec. 21, 2013, and left a thick layer of ice that stalled road and air travel in its wake.
Trees and hydro lines were toppled, leaving hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses without power for days.
