Sgt. Ryan Russell, an 11-year-veteran of the Toronto Police Service, died in the line of duty early Wednesday morning after being struck by a stolen snowplow.
Russell, 35, had moved to 52 Division six months ago after serving for years on Toronto's Guns and Gangs Unit.
The married father of one young son was the son of a former police officer and was described by his colleagues as a dedicated officer.
"He was a fine police officer and a great servant to the people of Toronto," said Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair.
