Vivilan Lewis feels lucky to be alive.
The teacher’s morning began as usual Tuesday. But her drive to work was interrupted by a loud crash that could have been disastrous.
“Suddenly I heard this crashing sound,” Lewis said. “Of course it startled me so I held on to the steering wheel very tightly. And then I realized there was this steel rod that came piercing through the windscreen onto the dashboard. It pierced the dashboard as well.”
Out of nowhere, a brown steel rebar had gone through her windshield like a projectile, leaving a hole in both her windshield and her dashboard.
“I didn’t see it fall at all. I didn’t see it coming. The only thing I heard was a loud crashing sound,” Lewis said.
She said she has no idea where the rod might have come from, as she didn’t see a transport truck or any loose fixtures nearby. The rod was also too heavy to have been picked up by wind.
She took the car to police, who seemed equally baffled and are now investigating. They said Lewis is lucky to be alive.
“Any closer and it could have come piercing through my chest,” Lewis said. “I feel very grateful that I’ve actually lived to tell the tale.”
