Police arrested a 45-year-old man Monday after they executed a search warrant at a Vaughan home and found child porn.
The images were on a computer and compact discs, authorities said.
York police said the probe was prompted by a tip from the RCMP, who found child porn on a suspect's computer during one of their investigations.
Eugene Shavrov faces a charge of possession of child pornography and is due in court on Tuesday.
In light of the incident, York police reminded parents Tuesday to teach their children about safety on the Internet.
Police said children should:
- Never give anyone their name, address, telephone number, computer password, or any other personal information over the internet without a parent's consent;
- Stay out of all chat rooms and websites that are not first approved by their parent; and
- Be supervised by an adult when they are online and not have access to a web camera especially in their bedroom.
