Two people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a shooting at a busy community centre near Jane Street and Highway 401 Tuesday night.

Police were called to a residential building at 40 Falstaff Ave. shortly before 8:00 p.m. Paramedics discovered a 20-year-old man who had been shot in the groin multiple times in a stairwell of the building.

Shortly after paramedics arrived, residents ushered them to the community centre across the street where a 17-year-old boy was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the head.

Both men were then rushed to hospital.

“The community centre was a pretty hectic scene because of the fact there was a basketball game going on as well as a judo class,” EMS superintendent Troy Van Overdijk told CP24 at the scene.

Dozens of officers, as well as canine units combed both scenes Tuesday night.

Police said no arrests have been made so far.

This was the second shooting in the city’s west end within four hours. A young man was shot and killed in a separate incident just a few minutes’ drive away at Eglinton Avenue West and Weston Road around 4:20 p.m.

It was not known whether there was any connection between the two incidents.
