Toronto police say that an undercover officer got into a shoot out with a trio of men early Saturday morning.

Police say the plainclothes officer was investigating a break-in near Victoria Park and Finch Avenues around 2:30 a.m. when the gunfire broke out.

The officer was walking back to his car when he was approached by three men. The officer identified himself as police but one of the three men pulled out a gun and fired it.

The bullet nearly hit the officer, who returned fire. The three men then took off in an unspecified direction.

It doesn't appear that anyone was hurt in the incident.

Police are asking that anyone who was in the area and may have seen the incident to call 416-808-3300.

There was no description given of the three suspects.
