A man is dead after being pulled from a rushing creek in Scarborough Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to the banks of Highland Creek, near Lawrence Avenue East and McCowan Road, shortly after 3 p.m. to find a man submerged in the fast-moving water.
Several police officers dived into the rushing creek and pulled the man out.
The 34-year-old man was rushed to hospital without vital signs and was pronounced dead a short time later.
His name has not been released.
Toronto Fire Chief Mike Strapko said it was unclear how the man ended up in the water. Residents in the area have been known to occasionally swim in the creek.
