CANNES, France - The head of the Toronto International Film Festival has joined a Cannes jury looking at new and upcoming talent.

TIFF director Piers Handling joins the jury for the program Un Certain Regard alongside French actress Julie Gayet, Indian journalist Uma Da Cunha and Swedish journalist Marit Kapla.

The jury is headed by Italian writer-director Paolo Sorrentino.

Un Certain Regard recognizes young talent and is meant to encourage innovative works.

It's part of the annual Cannes film festival, which this year runs from May 13 to 24.

The program opens May 14 with Iranian director Bahman Ghobadi's "Nobody Knows About the Persian Cats."
