The balloon has burst and the rest is winter.

Toronto got its first taste of snow on Wednesday as heavy flurries hit vast sections of southern Ontario.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Toronto and the surrounding area warning residents to expect brief periods of heavy flurries.

The statement said that the band of flurries extended from Muskoka southward to the Golden Horseshoe area and is expected to track into eastern Ontario through the day.

The afternoon temperature is expected to hover between 0C and 3C.
