Three women and two men were to appear in court on Monday after a vicious street fight outside a housing complex in Toronto's west end sent several other women to hospital.

Police were called to a home on Humber Boulevard just after 6 p.m. on Sunday after one group of women was apparently ambushed by another group of women.

Three women and a man were taken to hospital with knife wounds, none of which were life-threatening, police said.

Investigators said the women are all in their 20s.

Officers recovered weapons including a baseball bat and a frying pan.

Reports suggested the brawl either stemmed from a domestic dispute or a property dispute.

The accused have been charged with various assault offences.
