Seven people are homeless after a fire tore through a Markham home early Friday.

Emergency crews were called to a home on Macrill Road, near Woodbine Avenue and Major Mackenzie Drive, at around 2:40 a.m.

The fire appeared to have started in the basement and worked its way through the home. Huge flames and plumes of smoke were seen shooting through windows and burning through all areas of the home.

Seven people were in home at the time that the fire started, but officials say they escaped without injury.

According to Markham fire officials, the blaze does not seem suspicious.
