Toronto police are investigating after gunshots were apparently fired at a man in the city's Riverdale neighbourhood Monday.
Emergency personnel were called to a public housing building on Matilda Street, near Queen Street East and Broadway Avenue, when residents heard several gunshots at about noon.
A Toronto EMS spokesperson said the man was reportedly shot in the hand, but police later confirmed the man did not suffer a gunshot wound.
The man suffered scrapes to his knuckles as he tried to escape the shooter, police told CP24 reporter George Lagogianes.
Bullet holes were found in the building's wall.
Police received at least one 911 call from someone who heard about four gunshots, said Staff Sgt. Ian Moyer.
A caller reported seeing someone possibly running from the area, Moyer told CP24.
Officers scoured the neighbourhood and the building, where they found a trail of blood and eventually located the man, whose hand was bloodied, in a suite.
Police are looking for at least one suspect.
