Police have identified the city’s 31st murder victim as Nirosan Thillainathan, 22, of Toronto.

Thillainathan was found dead early Sunday morning in Scarborough, near Highway 401 and McCowan Road.

Police initially called his death suspicious, but now confirm that Thillainathan was murdered.

Police said Monday that an autopsy determined Thillainathan died due to stab wounds to his body.

Thillainathan was known to police in the GTA.

Local news reports indicate a man with the same name was one of two people arrested after a teen was stabbed in Ajax in March 2010. Police have not confirmed whether the two incidents are related.

At that time, Thillainathan was charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

Zishan Malik, 20, was arrested Sunday morning and has been charged with second-degree murder. He appeared in a Toronto court Monday morning.

Police are asking anyone with information about Thillainathan’s death to come forward and call police at 416-808-7400, or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS.
