An Oshawa man is facing charges after a pickup truck fled the scene of a crash and hit two police cars.
A pickup truck was travelling along King Street in Oshawa at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday when it veered out of its lane and struck a car, Durham Regional Police said.
The driver of the pickup truck then sped away from the scene.
Police caught up with the pickup truck heading north on Wilson Road, and surrounded the vehicle with police cruisers. The driver initially slowed down, but suddenly accelerated and collided with a squad car.
The truck continued to speed across several streets before crashing into a second police car, officers said. The driver finally stopped, but resisted arrest.
Police said they were forced to use a conducted energy weapon to impair the struggling man so they could get him out of his vehicle.
The driver caused $15,000 worth of damage to his own vehicle, and another $10,500 to the two police cars, police said.
A 40-year-old man has been charged with impaired operation of a vehicle, failing to provide a breath sample, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
