TOLEDO, Ohio - Business owners along the Lake Erie shores in Ohio say the annual invasion of mayflies is a little worse than in recent years.
The pesky but harmless bugs started rising out of the lake this week and are blanketing street lamps, store windows and just about anything they can cling to near shorelines in the Toledo area.
Mayflies are a sign of a healthier Lake Erie even though they're an annoyance because they stick to clothes and sometimes land in hair.
Some people are dimming their lights at night so they don't attract the bugs.
