Peel Region Police found the driver of a pickup truck who allegedly fled on foot after triggering a multi-vehicle collision in Brampton on Monday afternoon.
The crash, on Dixie Road south of Sandalwood Parkway occurred at about 1:45 p.m., sent several people to hospital, one with life-threatening injuries.
Police believe a black Chevrolet pickup truck was weaving in and out of traffic while travelling south on Dixie. Witnesses said it mounted the centre median and became airborne, landing on a northbound Ford Focus, sending the SUV into a northbound Lincoln MKX.
The driver of the Focus, 33-year-old Jennifer Conroy, of Brampton, was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She underwent emergency surgery and is now listed in serious, but stable condition.
Her two passengers, an 11-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy, were treated at hospital for minor injuries.
The pickup truck's two other occupants were also treated to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Passengers inside the Lincoln MKX were not injured.
The crash closed the area until 9 p.m. Monday.
Peel police have arrested 24-year-old Mitchell Wheeler, of no fixed address. He has been charged with a number of offences including failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
