TORONTO - Progressive Conservative Leader John Tory says the province should get rid of the retail sales tax on Ontario hotels and attractions this summer.
Tory says the move would give families a break, stimulate the tourism industry and boost the province's ailing economy.
He says the cost of living in Ontario for the average family of four has increased by more than $2,000 since the Liberal government came to power in 2003.
He says his proposed tax cut would ease that burden and kick start an economy that's on the brink of a recession.
Tory says eliminating the tax from Victoria Day to Labour Day would save more than $115 for a family of four visiting Toronto on a long weekend.
He says the government should also start spending taxpayer dollars on promoting specific places and bargains, instead of politically motivated ''feel-good'' ads.
