One person injured, suspect charged with arson following Etobicoke apartment fire

A suspect has been charged with arson after a two-alarm fire at an Etobicoke apartment complex early Saturday morning left one person with injuries.

Firefighters were called to the unit, located inside a building near Lake Shore Boulevard West and Royal York Road in the city’s Mimico neighbourhood, just before 1 a.m.

Toronto Fire Services said police were already at the scene responding to a domestic incident when the fire broke out.

Crews arrived at the fourth-floor unit to find heavy smoke in the hallway and residence. The fire itself was extinguished and one person was left with minor injuries.

In an email to CP24, Toronto police said an unidentified 33-year-old man was charged with assault, arson with disregard for human life, mischief endangering life, and two counts of failing to comply with a release rrder.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
