A man has died after a shooting in Toronto’s Riverdale neighbourhood on Sunday.
There were initial reports of the sound of gunshots heard in the Mary Ann Shadd Lane and Munro Street area around 4 p.m., police said.
Paramedics and officersarrived on scene and located the victim on the upper floor of 87 Munro Street.
The man was later pronounced dead, paramedics confirmed.
“We believe the person was shot upstairs,” Toronto police Det. Murray Barnes told CP24 at the scene later on Sunday night.
Officers on scene continue to canvass the area for evidence.
“Tomorrow morning we should have a positive identification on the deceased and we should be able to give the cause of death from the autopsy,” he said.
Police are also looking through surveillance camera footage from the area.
“Video will play a huge role,” he said.
This comes three months after 61-year-old Peggy Ann Smith was fatally shot in the same area on Aug. 27. Smith was visiting family at a home near Dundas and Munro streets, according to investigators.
Police said they believe Smith was not the target of that shooting.
Barnes said there was no connection between the two shootings, however, he would be looking into every piece of information.
Barnes said he did have some suspect information but would not be releasing it at this time.
He also asked any witnesses to come forward.
“If you were in the area and saw or heard anything, please contact us,” he said.
