A young man is dead after being shot in the head outside a west-end Toronto adult learning centre on Thursday afternoon.

Police said the victim, who is believed to be in his late teens, was hit at about 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Burnhamthorpe College, on Burnhamthorpe Road and The East Mall.

The shooting took place shortly after classes let out for the day. It is not clear if the victim, whose identity was not released, was a student at the facility.

The man was taken to St. Michael's Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The shooting reportedly took place in front of many witnesses. Police officers spent the afternoon canvassing the area for clues.

No arrests have been made.

A shooting unfolded outside the same school last October. In that incident, two people were shot, forcing a temporary lockdown.

The victims, one of them was a student, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
