A loaded handgun was found inside the carry-on luggage of an American traveller at Pearson International Airport on the weekend.

Peel police said when the accused placed his bag through the screening machine on Saturday afternoon, security officers saw the outline of a firearm.

Officials looked inside the luggage and found a loaded .25-calibre pistol.

Marcos Placeros Padron, of Louisville, Ky., was arrested and charged with carrying a prohibited weapon carelessly, possession of a firearm without a licence and possession of a prohibited firearm along with ammunition.

He was to appear in a Brampton court on Monday.
