Toronto police are looking for the driver of a minivan after a 14-year-old girl was dragged for about 45 metres in a hit-and-run crash.

The incident occurred at about 9:55 p.m. on Thursday night in Cabbagetown, at the intersection of Parliament and Gerrard Streets.

Police said the girl was crossing the street with her mother and eight-year-old sister when the trio was hit by a northbound van. The 14-year-old was dragged for quite a distance before being dislodged from the vehicle.

The driver left the scene despite knowing he had struck someone, police said.

The victim was listed in serious but stable condition on Friday. Her sister and mother were treated at hospital and released.

The suspect's van is described as being red or maroon in colour and could have damage to its front end.

Police are urging the driver to surrender.
