A young woman from Mississauga is dead after a fiery crash in Halton region.
The accident happened just after 8 p.m. Wednesday night on Trafalgar Road near 15th sideroad.
Police say a 20-year-old woman was driving an Acura northbound on Trafalgar Road when she tried to pass several vehicles. The Acura then veered out of control, struck a curb and spinned out onto the southbound lanes where it hit a Lincoln SUV.
The impact of the crash forced the Acura off the roadway and sent it slamming into a tree. The driver was ejected from the car and pronounced dead on the scene.
The Acura caught on fire but Halton firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly.
There were two occupants in the SUV but they only suffered minor injuries, according to police.
Trafalgar was closed for about four hours while authorities investigated the circumstances of the crash.
