‘Families were home sleeping’: No injuries after 14 shots fired at Oshawa housing complex, Durham police chief says
No injuries were reported after more than a dozen shots were fired at a housing complex in Oshawa overnight, Durham Regional Police say.
Police said officers were called to the area of Mary Street North and Taunton Road at around 2:05 a.m. for a report of shots fired.
“Officers arrived on scene and located a number of shell casings in the area. At this time, there have been no physical injuries reported,” Durham police said in an email to CP24.
In a post on social media, Durham Regional Police Chief Peter Moreira said it is “very lucky” that no one was hurt.
“Last night we saw 14 shots fired into a housing complex in Oshawa. Families were home sleeping while one or more coward(s) fired indiscriminately,” Moreira wrote.
“The frequency of these incidents is of great concern and require dedicated resources to address. It’s another sober reminder that @RegionofDurham is not immune from gun related crime.”
Police said they are working to identify those responsible and are urging anyone with video footage of the area at the time of the shooting to contact investigators.
