A 75-year-old cyclist has died after being struck by a vehicle in Mississauga.

The incident took place at about 10:55 p.m. Sunday near Burnhamthorpe Road East and Tomken Road, west of Dixie Road, Peel police said.

Police said the 75-year-old man was struck by a white pickup truck.

The driver allegedly stopped and exited the vehicle, but then got back in and drove off.

Peel police said the driver was arrested a short distance from the scene.

Jeffery Sanford, 46, of Mississauga, has been charged with failing to remain causing death and driving while under suspension.

Sanford was scheduled to appear in a Brampton court Monday.
