Brampton teen allegedly linked to armed Vaughan home invasion arrested
A Brampton teenager wanted in connection with a Vaughan home invasion earlier this week that resulted in a shooting has been arrested, police say.
On Friday evening, York Regional Police announced that 18-year-old Doneil Josiah Levy-Porter, who allegedly took part in Monday’s break-in near Dufferin Street and Major MacKenzie Drive had been located in Brampton.
The arrest was made hours after police issued a Canada-wide warrant for him.
It’s alleged five suspects entered the residence just before 4 a.m. on Jan. 6 after busting through a rear glass door. Police said one suspect was armed with a gun, and when the residents were confronted, a struggle ensued, and the gun was discharged.
One victim was shot and transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. They have since been released. No other residents were injured, police said.
Investigators believe that one suspect was also injured.
A dark-coloured SUV was seen fleeing the scene, and police said a handgun was left behind at the home following the struggle.
Levy-Porter is facing nearly a dozen charges, including aggravated assault, two counts of robbery with a firearm and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.
Police said Levy-Porter was also charged in connection with a bank robbery in Markham on Dec. 23.
“At the time of these offences, Levy-Porter was on three release orders for previous unrelated charges,” police added.
Meanwhile, police told CTV News Toronto that four other suspects are outstanding in the case.
Police did not say what may have motivated the break-in.
