The Toronto Financial District Business Improvement Area wants the public to weigh in on how to improve the signage for the city’s underground PATH system.
The underground pedestrian pathway, which hosts about 200,000 people each workday, connects 80 buildings in the city’s downtown core.
In an effort to make it easier to navigate the system, a new map of the underground PATH has been developed and the Toronto Financial District BIA is asking Toronto residents to come forward with feedback.
“This is the next step in the effort to improve PATH wayfinding,” Evan Weinberg, Policy and Advocacy Manager at the Toronto Financial District BIA, said in a news release issued Monday.
“The conceptual design on display was informed by nearly 2,000 public responses we received in February and May about how to improve the PATH map and signage. We’ve also worked closely with the major buildings connected by the PATH, the City of Toronto, TTC, Metrolinx and the other BIAs.”
Weinberg added that more improvements could be made to the new map's design, which has not been finalized.
“We know there are further refinements to make and we hope both PATH experts and new users take the opportunity to assist in making the new map the best it can be,” he said.
Full implementation of the new map is expected for early 2018.
“Ultimately, we’re looking to improve user confidence in the PATH system,” Weinberg’s statement continued.
“The network is so large that it’s a benefit to not only workers in the area but downtown residents and visitors, too. The new map should help them feel confident to explore.”
A concept board relating to the new map will be on display until October 14 at the concourse level of the Royal Bank Plaza, located at 200 Bay Street.
Members of the public can give their feedback by filling out a survey on the BIA’s website.
