A Barrie, Ont., man was charged with impaired driving on Thursday after police say he was caught driving in excess of 200 kilometres per hour.

Ontario Provincial Police said the man was pulled over after his Infiniti G37X was clocked speeding on Highway 400 at Mapleview Drive in Barrie, shortly after 9 p.m.

Police say the arresting officers suspected the man was impaired by alcohol and took him to the police station for breath analysis.

Rodney Shaw, 44, has been charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and racing a motor vehicle.

Shaw was released on a promise to appear in court.

Anyone charged with impaired driving receives an immediate 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle used, regardless of ownership, is seized for seven days.
